World Class Fitness in 100 Words

From "What is Fitness?", by Greg Glassman, published in the Crossfit Journal, available here.

"- Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.

- Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast.

- Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.

- Regularly learn and play new sports."

Location

We train primarily at our home based Garage Gym in Sag Harbor.
We also provide private and small group training and larger group format classes at various gyms, community centers, parks, beaches, public locations, and client's homes in the area. Private and small group training is by appointment only.

If you know of a great location in and around Sag Harbor or Southampton/Easthampton/Bridgehampton, let us know, we're always on the lookout for the perfect location for our new box.

Testimonials

Here are what some of our clients have to say about training with us:

"I began training with Ben Goodale at the recommendation on my chiropractor, who felt that CrossFit training would be a good choice for me. Despite the fact that I have been regularly working out since 2005, I had made little gains and was feeling frustrated by that.

CrossFit training is the best fitness move I have made. I am already stronger than I have ever been. Ben is a great trainer, He really knows his stuff and knows how to get it across. He is patient, encouraging and enthusiastic. The workouts are varied and challenging--there is no chance of being bored by routine at a crossfit gym! I look forward to each session and leave feeling amazed by what I've just achieved. And it doesn't end when I leave the gym. All day long I'm stronger and more confident and more capable."

the importance of footwear

anyone training with me has probably heard me rant about having the right footwear (which might mean none at all!), and of training and strengthening your feet.

here are some links to articles on the subject

Daily Mail barefoot running

You Walk Wrong

Fitness Spotlight - Barefoot Running

The above links are all sourceed from an excellent multi-partt article by Steven Low on eatmoveimprove.com about shoes, sitting, and lower body dysfunction, which i highly recommend everyone read. Steven Low, a gymnast and academic in the fields of biochem, exercise physiology, and physical therapy, is a mainstay of the Crossfit discussion boards. His many contributions are an invaluable (and free) resource.

Check out his article here:

Shoes, Sitting, and Lower Body Dysfunctions. By Steven Low

so unstrap those matresses from your feet and work it out!

but please also beware! with barefoot running and barefoot tech footwear, you definitely want to develop your capabilties gradually. it is very easy to do too much too soon, and this can lead to injuries and aggravations. so please train safely and effectively.
